Ok so our tips and pickleball drills printables have been super popular so we are going to keep adding more!! This time we are going to explain the best pickleball lob drills. I am known as the lobber on the court so I do this quite a bit and it is a smart move at times to surprise your competitors for sure, if done right. 😉
Pickleball Lob Drills for Beginners
You definitely need to practice this shot again, and again, and did I say again??!! It is not just about the height of the shot but how deep it is in the court without going out, and disguising it so the other side doesn’t see it coming. There is a bit of a flick to the wrist, if you can incorporate a bit of slice to it that is even better to keep it in bounds, and if you can lob off of a dink that is your best shot ever!!
Let’s look at a print out of the top 10 lob drills you should practice on the court with a partner. Your best bet is to start with #1 of course and have each person do it with their partner feeding them the ball at different locations until you can do 10 in a row perfectly.

If you haven’t drilled at all I would suggest to first start with our pickleball footwork drills before starting this one honestly. Getting that perfected is key so you can do all the other shots correctly and not hurt yourself in the process.
What is the best lob in pickleball?
Now let’s talk about the best pickleball lob shot for a second here. Ideally you want the other side to not know you are doing it so performing it before it bounces is best, if possible. I like to do it when all 4 of us are at the net dinking. When it has been back and forth 4 times or so I will try to break the monotony of it by hitting a mid kitchen dink before it bounces up and over the cross court opponent. As high as I can and as far back into the court without it landing out.
Once I really got good at this shot I then incorporated a bit of a slice (which I do with more than half of my shots overall anyway) which helps the ball to stay inside and makes it harder for them to return. Reason why it is best to focus on hitting it cross court on the non dominant side of the opponent is because that location is very hard for that person to return. AND it is far away from their partner trying to run back and help them get it. Period.

If you love pickleball printables, so do we and that is why I created a lob drills pdf version of what we are talking about. I mean I think it is helpful to have directions in hand on the court. It is easier to see vs. using your phone and you can cross each one off when you feel you have that one down.
