What is a reset in pickleball? I’m glad you asked because to improve you definitely need to understand what it is and how to do it well! If you watch the Kawamoto sisters play they do a lot of it, and they have beat the #1 ladies doing just that (a lot). Resetting slows the ball down in a firefight so you can play a more strategic game at the net, and get back to dinking.
Pickleball Resets
We have created a few pickleball drills and are continuing to add more each week so bookmark this link here so you can refer back to them all. When you practice this shot you want to do so in response to all sorts of hits. In response to a drive, a crosscourt dink, volley, etc….
I always think it is best to not only explain drills but also to include a pickleball printable along with it. You can then print it out and bring it with you to the court so you can share with others, and follow along as you do each one. It is hard to remember and read off your phone when you are trying to move from one to another.

If you are like me and like to have something to refer to and read as you progress thru the 10 stages I have a free drills printable for you here. And feel free to share that and/or this post with your friends because you are certainly going to want to do it with friends….makes everything more fun.
Why Should You Drill?
Practice makes perfect right?? If you are playing baseball do you only play games multiple times a week and that is it?? NO, the same goes for pickleball of course. You need to practice pickleball footwork drills in the beginning when you are first learning so you don’t fall. Then progress to dinking over and over and over again until you can do it 20,30,50 times in a row without hitting it into the net.
The “easy shots” need to be practiced actually even more than the tricky ones because they are done more often, and missed. Start with #1 on the list over and over again, for like 30 minutes or until you can perform it successfully like 20 times before you move to #2 and on and on from there.
Your best bet is to work on one thing each week. Reserve a court with friends, or a friend and work on the singular skill together. This is how you will definitely see an improvement in your games. Consistency is key and since 75% of errors are forced errors (someone hitting it into the net or out) if you can just “make one more ball” with accuracy you will start winning more points and more games!!
