I started to create pickleball drills of all kinds on my site when I started to play more and realized that drilling is just if not more important than playing games. If you really want to improve your accuracy and increase your DUPR rating you will want to start practicing these skills weekly, I have a free PDF pickleball printable of these as well!

I was like you when I first started. Took an intro class, then 102, met some people my level and we started to play…..a lot together. We played more and more often but practicing wasn’t on our radar until about a year later and it was then our games went to the next level!! I mean think about it, in every sport you practice WAY more than you play games and this fast paced sport on the court is no different.

How to Improve Your Volleys in Pickleball

We talked about this in our Pickleball Reset Drills post last week but volleys are fast, at the net, many times with your backhand and you need quick hands to “get one more ball”. You may have heard these called a fire fight since they are such fast paced and typically chest height. You get in one with a fast ball close to the net is hit back and forth without it bouncing. Practicing them over and over and over again trying to avoid an error (hitting it into the net or out) is how you will improve this skill.

Pickleball Volley Drills PDF

If you are like me (old fashioned) and like to have paper in hand to look at and refer to on the court I have a drills pdf for you here. There are 10 great drill ideas for you to do with a partner on the court when you practice together. I would suggest that you do each for at least 15 minutes straight, 30 minutes is even better, before moving on to another one.

Typically when you are working on a new skill you want to start with one specific one until you can do it at least 10 times, a few times, without making an error. In a 1.5 hour court session you probably can get thru 3-4 of these at a time. Do this once a week for a month and I guarantee you will see results when you start to play with friends or Pickleball Round Robin.
